The Intellego Hosted LMS Service
What is it?
The Intellego Managed LMS service is an internet hosted implementation of NetDimensions EKP application, which is fully managed by Intellego’s operational and technical resources and provided to your organisation as a service. The monthly price of the Intellego Managed LMS service includes all hardware, software license, maintenance and support costs. After the initial design and installation activities, your learners (or “end users”) simply login to the system using a web browser – your organisation does not have to have any of the specialised resources and skills required to keep such an IT service functioning, all system management activities are carried out by Intellego, including managing the technical resources.
What activities does my organisation have to undertake?
User account administration and uploading / deleting of your own eLearning course’s / content. Automated links between HR systems and the LMS are also available as optional extras.
The Enterprise Knowledge Platform Application
The Enterprise Knowledge Platform (E.K.P.) is a Java and DHTML application suite that requires a database and web-server to function. The application is platform independent for both database and web server. Intellego’s managed and hosted application service guarantees a minimum of 95% uptime for the E.K.P. application.
Dedicated or Shared service?
Our standard service is provided by a network of “shared” servers, however, some clients prefer (or require) dedicated servers. A good rule of thumb is if you have 8000+ learner’s (end users) we recommend a dedicated server. Additionally, some clients have a legal requirement to store personnel information on non-shared servers (eg, the Emergency services and Government departments)
Capacities (standard shared service)
• 5gb disk storage as standard for training materials
• 20gb per month data transmission / bandwidth as standard (extra bandwidth is automatically available if required charged at £1.25 / gb used).
Capacities (standard dedicated service)
• 50gb disk storage as standard for training materials
• 80gb per month data transmission / bandwidth as standard (extra bandwidth is available)
Service Monitoring
The EKP application is monitored 24x7 with remote alerting via our dedicated monitoring service. This is not just the normal monitoring that “something is running on the server” (ie standard port 80 tests), it interrogates all aspects of the applications architecture and logs vital statistics such as response times and user activity.
Maintenance
Intellego is the primary UK partner for NetDimensions.Com. As authors of the application, we work with their programmers and system designers on a daily basis. Intellego’s sister company, NetDimensions UK, also provides support and service to UK and Eire based EKP re-sellers; put simply we have the people and know how to manage and maintain the application.
• 3 hrs per week planned maintenance (currently running at 3hrs per month)
• Application support available 9 - 5.30pm
Hosted Infrastructure
We run our Managed LMS Service on servers within our own secured data network hosted in RackSpace’s data centre.
RackSpace are widely acknowledged as the Rolls Royce provider in the European hosting world, and Intellego is an accredited RackSpace partner.
• 100% network uptime (internet connectivity) - 4gb internet connection (data centre level)
• Hardware firewall (CISCO)
• Dell servers (single and twin processors, SCSI RAID storage, twin PSU)
• Hardware maintained by RackSpace – dedicated Dell engineer and spares on site.
• Operating system - Windows 2003 server - maintained by RackSpace (Microsoft Gold Partner of the year 2004, 2005).
• Database Element (SQL 2000)
• Webserver Element (Tomcat)

Some further information about the RackSpace infrastructure….
Connectivity
Rackspace provides a fully resilient and redundant network infrastructure on which our customers mission critical Internet based operations are based. Our entirely switched network employs Cisco 6500 chassis based switches running HSRP (N+1 hot failover) to ensure that data can be routed even in the event of device or link failure. Internet connectivity
is provided via multiple links to Tier 1 bandwidth providers which, coupled with our Cisco powered infrastructure, enables us to maintain 100% network availability.
Routing
Rackspace runs the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP4) for best case routing. Each packet is evaluated and sent over the best route possible. Our redundant network architecture means packets may be sent via alternative routes even if they are being delivered to the same end user. Should one of our providers fail, packets leaving our network are automatically
redirected through another route via a different provider.
Hardware
We guarantee hardware components will function properly and will replace any component with a fault . We will begin Hardware replacement once we identify the problem component. We guarantee that Hardware replacement will be complete within one hour of us identifying the problem. Hardware is defined as the Processor(s), RAM, hard disk(s), motherboard, Network Interface Card (NIC) card and other related hardware included under the server lease. This guarantee does not apply to the time required to rebuild a RAID array nor to the reload of certain operating systems and applications.
